Sarnia, ON – Blackburn News (April 24, 2017) -- All of us our trying to lower our energy bills but the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park is doing it in a big way.

Executive Director Tom Strifler says they've undertaken a number a projects that will cut their annual energy costs by 44%, or 2.4-million kilowatt hours, when complete by mid-2018.

He says several consumption-reducing projects at the 300,000 sq ft facility are already complete.

"We've converted all our lighting to LED, which is very low energy, throughout the complex, "says Strifler. "We've upgraded our HVAC systems to use less energy. We've automated those and we've optimized those and we're installing a cogen unit which will generate electricity from gas."

Strifler says the upgrades will save them $380,000 a year, and will also reduce maintenance costs.

He says Bluewater Power helped with $194,000 in financial incentives through Ontario's Save on Energy Program.
